another reorganization of the garage

so it's almost been a year since p, a and i moved into out house. it's still a mess... somewhat. a couple of months ago, we moved the spare bed into the office/guest room and moved a couple of shelves and boxes/files into the garage. they been clogging up the east wall of the garage for the last three months as we were busy planning our wedding/ going on vacation.
now we're back from vaca and everyone's back to their crazy work/take care of boo bear scheduls. with my evenings, instead of training on the bike for the upcoming cross season, i've started on the garage reorganization. i still can't believe we have as much stuff as we do... and to think, about 90 percent of what we have now was stuffed into a loft apartment on cap hill.
phase one is complete... i guess. shelves have been adjusted and some items are back on the shelves. just gotta figure out what to do with the space up in the corner. phase two i think will start on sunday.

hold your line!

driving home yesterday, i see a cyclist on his way home riding maybe a 48x16 gear, not sure if it was a fixie or just a single speed freewheel. anyway, down the main east-west drag in my neighborhood, there is a very wide and clearly marked bike path. i'm driving maybe 20 mph down this stretch because there tends to be lots of pedestrian traffic and kids out; so, the cyclist spinning maddly on his bike and has passed me at this point with a couple of bike lengths gap, maybe doing 25-28 mph. all of a sudden, he veers to the left of the road and hugs the left curb (oneway street). now, i can say that i've made abrupt lane changes without signaling, but that was when the opening was just enough for me to get through and also during my courier days when (at times) time was of utmost importance. now this guy, sudden side to side movement, ok, i thought to myself, maybe he's going to take a left into one of the side streets, that would kind of make sense, but then again, it'd be a sharp turn. another block or so later, he doesn't turn... and then abrupty shifts back into the bike lane and blows through the four-way stop up the road. what a jackass. hey bud, if you're going straight, stay in your lane... if you were sprinting for a stage win, i'm sure the referee would dq you and relagate you to the back of the finishing pack for not holding your line.

shaking off the dust

it's always hard going back to work after taking a vacation. normally, i'd only take a week's vacation, or maybe less. but since i was getting married, i took two weeks off. time before to prep and a bit of time after to get post-wedding errands run before taking off on a honeymoon. my plan was to only take about 1.5 weeks off. we'd be back from our honeymoon before the 4th of july, and since it landed on a tuesday, i was going to head into the office on the monday, putz around and answer emails and get work organized, take a day off, and then i'd be back in running on wednesday. well... i woke up on monday, 3 july 06, and decided it was needed as another rest day. so i called in to say i'd extend my vacation another day.

wednesday came around and i was wishing it hadn't. it was pretty tough last week to get motivated to get anything done. so instead of actualy 'work' that i had on my desk, i went through a bunch of web-based training modules to kill the hours. but by thursday afternoon and friday afternoon, i had slowly gotten back into the piles and piles of work on my desk.

now it's monday morning. i've been here for an hour and feel like i'm still shaking off the remainder of my vacation dust. if it doesn't come off by friday, i'm thinking a change is in order and looking toward the main office to pull me from the refinery.
