hold your line!
driving home yesterday, i see a cyclist on his way home riding maybe a 48x16 gear, not sure if it was a fixie or just a single speed freewheel. anyway, down the main east-west drag in my neighborhood, there is a very wide and clearly marked bike path. i'm driving maybe 20 mph down this stretch because there tends to be lots of pedestrian traffic and kids out; so, the cyclist spinning maddly on his bike and has passed me at this point with a couple of bike lengths gap, maybe doing 25-28 mph. all of a sudden, he veers to the left of the road and hugs the left curb (oneway street). now, i can say that i've made abrupt lane changes without signaling, but that was when the opening was just enough for me to get through and also during my courier days when (at times) time was of utmost importance. now this guy, sudden side to side movement, ok, i thought to myself, maybe he's going to take a left into one of the side streets, that would kind of make sense, but then again, it'd be a sharp turn. another block or so later, he doesn't turn... and then abrupty shifts back into the bike lane and blows through the four-way stop up the road. what a jackass. hey bud, if you're going straight, stay in your lane... if you were sprinting for a stage win, i'm sure the referee would dq you and relagate you to the back of the finishing pack for not holding your line.
