shaking off the dust

it's always hard going back to work after taking a vacation. normally, i'd only take a week's vacation, or maybe less. but since i was getting married, i took two weeks off. time before to prep and a bit of time after to get post-wedding errands run before taking off on a honeymoon. my plan was to only take about 1.5 weeks off. we'd be back from our honeymoon before the 4th of july, and since it landed on a tuesday, i was going to head into the office on the monday, putz around and answer emails and get work organized, take a day off, and then i'd be back in running on wednesday. well... i woke up on monday, 3 july 06, and decided it was needed as another rest day. so i called in to say i'd extend my vacation another day.

wednesday came around and i was wishing it hadn't. it was pretty tough last week to get motivated to get anything done. so instead of actualy 'work' that i had on my desk, i went through a bunch of web-based training modules to kill the hours. but by thursday afternoon and friday afternoon, i had slowly gotten back into the piles and piles of work on my desk.

now it's monday morning. i've been here for an hour and feel like i'm still shaking off the remainder of my vacation dust. if it doesn't come off by friday, i'm thinking a change is in order and looking toward the main office to pull me from the refinery.

Sounds like a plan. I had a similar situation when I returned from my honeymoon. I was sort of in a work funk for a while before getting married, but I didn't want to complicate life with work changes just before my wedding. So I figured I'd stick it out through my honeymoon, and see how I felt after I got back. Who knows, after some time off, and a new perspective when I got back, maybe things wouldn't be so bad. As it happened, I think I lasted about two months, and then I quit. :P Hopefully your company will be able to provide you with less drastic options, like the transfer you mentioned. Good luck!
